Technology Overview
Moog Crossbow is a leading developer and manufacture of inertial navigation and altitude measurement systems for military applications. Moog Crossbow’s unique value proposition is delivering outstanding performance and feature rich systems at a substantial value.
Moog Crossbow’s Inertial Engineering Team leverages over 15 years of experience in design, development, systems integration, and optimization of start-of-the-art MEMS gyros and accelerometers, fiber-optic gyros, magnetometers, C/A code and P/Y code GPS receivers and advanced algorithm technologies.
Moog Crossbow’s core technology includes:
MEMS Inertial Sensor Technology
Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) inertial sensors are compact chip-scale devices comprised of micro-patterned silicon structures fabricated using semiconductor processes. MEMS inertial sensors are ideally suited for a range of inertial state sensing applications due to their extremely low power requirements, high reliability and small size.
Sensor Fusion and Inertial Navigation Algorithms
Moog Moog Crossbow has developed a suite of patented advanced algorithms for optimizing system performance for land, airborne and marine applications. This includes use of Extended Kalman Filter approach that combines feedback from accelerometer, gyroscope, and other aiding sensor sources (GPS and magnetometer) to optimally estimate corrections to the inertial sensor errors and trajectory state. The filter applies statistical models to weight each new measurement relative to past information and also determines up-to-date uncertainties of the estimates for real time quality assessments. As a result of applying these advanced techniques, Moog Crossbow’s inertial systems deliver an outstanding level of system performance in complex operating environments. see example

Military Packaging and Calibration
Defense products operate in some of the most demanding conditions and environments. The Moog Crossbow team has built upon over a decade of experience in designing, engineering and testing to meet military standards applicable to inertial systems fielded on Joint Forces of the US military and our Allies. .
Moog Crossbow maintains a significant in house capability to support system design qualification testing, and calibration. These capabilities encompass environmental screening chambers, multi-axis rate tables, EMI Test Analysis, Multi-Axis Vibration Tables, and Magnetic Field Generators. Moog Crossbow’s products are routinely built to meet military standard requirements such as:
- MIL-STD-810
- MIL-STD-704
- MIL-STD-461
- MIL-STD-1553
