ēKo Base Radio and Antenna Placement Alternatives

eKo Base Radio
1 ēKo Base Radio with Standard Antenna
[ēKo Base Radio serves as a collection point receiving data from the deployed ēKo Nodes and then transmitting the field data to the ēKo Gateway.]

Different monitored environments may require different antenna and base radio placements in order to optimize the radio communication between the base radio and the deployed ēKo Nodes.

Some of the Factors Include:
  • Size and topology of nodes being deployed
    [topology refers to the configuration of nodes in the filed]
  • Location of the antenna/base radio and gateway relative to the deployed nodes in the field
  • Number of walls, windows, and other barriers between the base radio and the deployed nodes
  • Type of roof – wooden or metal


Crossbow offers three different placement alternatives to address
the variations in monitored environment.

Extended Indoor Placement
In the extended indoor placement, base radio / antenna and gateway are separated by as much as 100', and the antenna is mounted indoors. Crossbow offers a separately sold Extended Indoor Antenna Kit.		 eKo Communication

In the extended outdoor placement, base radio, antenna, and gateway are each
separated by as much as 100', and the antenna is mounted outdoors. Crossbow
